VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 8

Welcome everyone to week eight of Breachers VRML season 2! With just two weeks away from roster lock, the pressure is on for the team to make an impact. This week delivered exciting matches and some very interesting roster changes. With the season moving ever-closer to its climax, who will stand out apart from the rest of the crowd? Find out all this and more by reading below!

Week Seven Standings:

Before we dive into the action this week, let’s reacquaint ourselves with the top teams in each region:

Marking their return to the top spots in the Breachers VRML are Eternity and the highly anticipated Formula 3. An extremely close game between F3 and AESIR turned into yet another triple 6 finish! What once seemed like a rarity has happened quite a few times now in season 2! AESIR EU continues to stand atop the EU standings, with the Revolt-RVL, now Immortality, bringing up fourth place. Meanwhile, Ragnarok and ivi remain ever-determined to keep their spots at the top of the leaderboard. Amazingly, the APAC top three haven’t undergone any changes since last week, with 7DS clawing their way up to take the throne from Hybrid. Will the season 1 champions usurp Hybrid? We’ll find out in the coming weeks!

Week eight marks the two week point before the roster lock, meaning teams will no longer be able to add new players until the roster lock is lifted after the end of the postseason! This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

How are you feeling as a team after your week eight match/matches?
How important is utility to your team in the current meta of Breachers? Is it a better idea to purchase weapons or utility when saving in a league match?

NA:

AESIR- Plunge: “Feeling awesome sauce! (It’s better to buy) utility. If we are saving, then breaching foam and nades are (the) most used (utility).”

ASP3CT- RipTheCord: “We continue to maintain a strong team cohesion, emphasizing the paramount significance of mental training to ensure unwavering focus throughout the game. In situations where we secure a lead by a round or two, considering the acquisition of Vezin could be a strategic option. However In the given scenario, prioritizing utility over purchasing rifles is recommended. Allocating resources towards utility first, followed by considering other acquisitions, has shown to significantly enhance the team's performance, particularly in terms of breaching strategies. This approach has demonstrated a near-perfect success rate, underlining the vital role utility plays in the proficiency of breachers. Strategically deploying utility, based on precise timing and placement, significantly impacts the outcome of each round, potentially determining victory or defeat.”

Formula 3- Angel: “To be completely honest, week 8 didn’t go perfect but it also didn’t go bad for us. We were initially hoping to take a win out of this week, however things happen. We had a pretty bad game selling a 6-0 lead on AESIR especially, but we’re immediately getting back into it and learning from all of our mistakes. As for the current meta for util with our guys, we do our best to prioritize essentials on offense such as a drone, breaching foam, plus a grenade if possible. As for defense, we do our best to get grenades and trip-mines to help give damage to the opposing team. Other utility is extremely strong, but we do just fine without it so we don’t stress too much about it. When saving, I believe it’s more important to make sure you can get those key utilities (grenades, trip-mines, breaching foam, drones) first before getting your primary gun. My “minimum next round” feature tends to read 3300 so that I have the 3100 for vezin and an extra 200 for util.”

Eternity- Juice: “We are feeling really great actually. Past couple weeks we’ve had some hiccups with availability and staying consistent. The game last week (we had) massive technical difficulties, (but) we still came out on top. (It) depends on the situation or the score of the game, but I would say utility (is a better buy than weapons).”

EU:

AESIR EU- GOOBLIN: “We're feeling very confident after this week. We all know who's winning this season, and we're keeping this mindset no matter what happens. We're going to win, and we're going to keep improving as we grow as a team. Utility is very important on save rounds. Buying the essentials whilst being low on economy is what wins the 1's vs vezins, nades, smokes, etc. Jespers may be small, but a lot stronger combined with good util usage.”

ivi- Beaver: “Week eight, EU is slowly turning into NA 2.0. Had another tier 1 team rebrand to be associated with America. In my opinion, just buy Nades and vezins.”

Ragnarok- Mark: “Feeling a bit down personally, team morale is up but we have a lot to work on. We have been pushing utility more and more the better we get as a team. Buying utility over one or two vezins can mean a win or loss. With playspace being legalized in the league, our non-gunners have had to learn to keep up in other ways, especially for those who refuse to learn playspace (of which i respect), and utility has been a big factor in that.”

APAC:

7DS- McMuffinator: “Our team is feeling great, (and) we are looking forward to a rematch with Hybrid to take the top spot on the leaderboard again. On attack we will always buy utility in save rounds, as breaching foam is almost required to push most bomb sites. On defense we might buy trips or a grenade to try and get a rifle without taking a gunfight.”

Wacky Week Eight -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Week eight is here, and we’re at the point where teams have to start stepping up their game in preparation for the postseason. This current week that we’re in, week nine, is the last week where teams can challenge match other teams and bring on new players. By the time the week nine recap is out, the lock will already be in effect, so make sure you have your team sorted and ready before you get locked out of the action. Keep in mind that your team will have to have at least 6 games played this season to qualify for the postseason.

With all that said, why don’t we talk about some of the biggest rivalries in the league right now? NA’s prized matchup is no doubt F3 vs AESIR. Admittedly, I was a bit concerned for F3 when they revived themselves. F3 has had a rocky history when it comes to rosters, and my fear is that this new F3 would fall apart before they got any momentum like many other teams we saw over the course of the season. That said, they proved me very wrong, and demonstrated that they are here to stay. If you still have your doubts, I recommend watching their recent match against AESIR, which turned into another triple 6 finish! Sure, it didn’t count as a loss for AESIR, but that was the first time we saw their skill get truly tested in weeks. Though they were ultimately disappointed in the tie, I think Formula 3 took a huge step in the right direction with this match. They proved that AESIR can in fact bleed, and with more training and practice who knows? Maybe the only undefeated team in NA since week one won’t be able to boast that title anymore. We’ll find out in the coming weeks…

To quickly touch on the other two regions, Revolt-RVL associated itself with Eternity this week and rebranded to Immortality. They’re a promising team, and I’m curious to see where they go as we get into the final weeks of season 2. One thing’s for certain though: AESIR EU is the team to beat. With an undefeated record, and some of the best EU players on their roster, it seems that this team is looking to dominate their region just like their NA counterpart. I’ll be keeping a close eye on these teams moving forward, and I recommend you do the same as well, the EU scene has been fantastic to watch this season!

Finally, we have APAC, and the battle for first place. Hybrid still stands strong as the only undefeated APAC team to survive the whole season, but 7DS is quickly catching up. The season 1 champions aren’t keen on giving up their spot, but neither is Hybrid. It’s a fascinating conflict that ultimately I wish I could see more of, but time zones unfortunately put me in a spot where I can’t cast the APAC region. Regardless, it looks like it should be a fun battle, and I’m content watching it play out on the sideline. Good luck to both Hybrid and 7DS!

It’s once again time to end the weekly recap, and what a week it has been! As we march forwards towards the postseason, there seems to be no end to the questions! Who will win the AESIR vs Formula 3 battle in NA? Will 7DS finally get their long-awaited rematch against Hybrid? Will AESIR EU continue to dominate their region just like their NA counterpart? Ranked is right around the corner (literally, it’s releasing in just a few short hours from now), and the season has progressed onward and ever-closer to our dramatic finales in the post season and VRMLCON 2024! The top four teams in the NA region hang on for yet another week with the only change being the reappearance of RE.START in the top 5. Ignite has done an excellent job staying competitive with the other top teams with an overall strong season so far. On the APAC front we bid a warm welcome back to season 1 APAC champions 7DS to the top 3, falling just short of Hybrid’s very dominant hold on the #1 APAC spot. Shifting attention over to the EU region, we can see a massive rebrand for FYR who recently partnered up with the undefeated NA titan, AESIR, to become AESIR EU! With an AESIR-Formula 3 rivalry looming on the horizon in NA, will we see a similar rivalry in the EU with AESIR EU and the recently formed Formula 3 EU?

How are you feeling as a team after your week seven match/matches?
What is some advice you would offer to new players starting their Breachers VRML careers?

NA:

AESIR- Plunge: “Feeling untouchable but being cautious of what teams are to come. Practice hard and you'll improve your skills and your knowledge of the game, setting you and your team up for success.”

Ignite- UnbrokenVerdict: “We are feeling great after week 7. To hold the 4th spot in NA overall is a privilege and we look forward to continuing to try to build off our games this season. Win or lose, I firmly believe I have a group of guys who have the capabilities to continue to always get better in one way or another. If I were to offer any advice to someone starting this game, I would say to be patient with yourself and continue getting your repetitions in this game. With repetitions, comes invaluable experience which in turn, helps build your game sense and IQ for the flow of the game.”

RE.START- ShimiMarui: “We're feeling pretty good after this week. We've fixed a lot of problems holding us back over the last week and a half and we are all ready to continue working on how we can further improve. For players new to Breachers VRML or just VRML in general, I would say not to rush. Don't burn yourself out in your first season. Take some time to learn the game thoroughly and find a team or group of players you enjoy playing with and being around. Have some fun with the game, the player skill will just come with time. There will be many many more seasons of VRML with Breachers and many other games, so tons of time to grow and enter those top ranks. At the end of the day, we're playing a video game on the internet, may as well have fun while doing it!

EU:

AESIR EU- GOOBLIN: “This week as a team has been very interesting. Firstly, of course, our matches (although we won) have 100% shown us that although we stand at number 1 in EU, we still have a lot to learn. Sunset Ravens definitely put up more of a fight than we expected, but we managed to pull through eventually, which we all feel amazing about. Secondly, besides the matches, this week (has) been quite a mental challenge for a couple of us. A lot of personal things IRL have happened that's affected how we all get along in and out of Breachers, and it's affected our gameplay so to speak. But it's all finished now, and we're planning on staying number 1 as long as we're together. There's no other advice I'd give other than never give up. As cliche as it sounds, it's true. I started playing VR competitively when I was 13 in Echo VR. Since then my life's changed forever. The people you meet along the way and the things you can learn, is really worth it in the long run. Take the time into learning more, progressing as a player and a person, and even if your team (when you find one) isn't necessarily the best, you can experience a lot more than just a match every week. It's truly worth every second, and it's helped me grow to be who I am today. Keep at it, there's no reason not to.”

Revolt-RVL- XavDaSlav: “We are still feeling confident, that will never change. Ragnarok had surprised us and played awfully well. However, we still drew. RVL is still undefeated in VRML. My main tip would be to keep playing. Everything improves when you keep playing, like aim, gamesense, and chemistry.”

Cheeki Breachi- Beemo: “We're feeling the same as ever - bitter and resentful. Not because of Breachers, just the status quo. The advice I would offer to new players would be to not take advice from members of CHBR.”

APAC:

7DS- McMuffinator: “As a team, we are feeling very confident. We're just looking ahead to post season and cleaning up mistakes on the new map. Some advice for new players: If you are struggling to improve, I highly suggest watching back recordings of your game and checking things like crosshair placement, if you made too much noise, if you were too slow reacting to sound or a team comm. Having somebody you know is better than you critiquing the little things in your gameplay helps a lot.”

Wild Week Seven -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Week seven is here and it certainly hasn’t been short of its drama! Big rebrands in EU, 7DS breaking back into the APAC top three, and an extensive roster report have given me a plethora of topics to talk about, but I want to focus on NA for a bit- specifically the inevitable matchup between Formula 3 and AESIR.

Both teams are by no means strangers to victory. They even faced each other recently in the NA finals for season 1, but while AESIR has undergone a few but fair amount of roster changes, Formula 3 probably holds the record for the master team that has undergone some of the most significant roster shakeups in the entirety of the Breachers VRML. Seriously, we’ve seen their team lose some of their best players several times, only to bounce back shortly thereafter with seemingly even more ludicrous pickups. This current iteration holds their most stacked roster yet, in my opinion, with ex-pros from ASP3CT, Wicked, and Eternity. It feels like this team was specifically designed with beating AESIR in mind, and I certainly wish them luck with a task that no other NA team has accomplished yet this season: beat AESIR.

On the other side of the coin, however, we have that undefeated NA titan that has remained dominant since the preseason of this league. It’s undeniable that AESIR boasts a collection of some of the best players to ever play the game, and that’s evident when you look at their history- a team that, out of preseason, season 1, and now week seven into season 2, has only lost once in official matches. Could we finally see an end to this unstoppable reign? As I often say in these articles, only time will tell.

On a final note, I wish the players of Indomitable and Infinity luck with their future Breachers VRML endeavors- if they decide to stay. Both were teams with great potential that accomplished much while they played in this league, but both met a rather bitter and abrupt end. It feels unsatisfying to watch the two teams disband in the middle of the season, but such is the nature of the Breachers VRML sometimes. Either way, good luck to all of those players!

Wrapping up Week Seven:

With everything out of the way it looks like our time is up once again! With the ranked release coming out soon, season 2 still underway, and the approaching VRMLCON 2024 in July, there has never been a better time to get into Breachers! Welcome to week six of the Breachers VRML season 2! We hope you’ve all had a wonderful holiday break, and are ready for yet another action-packed week of Breachers action! Our teams have been busy too, with exciting matches that have changed around our standings, roster updates that have left us shocked, and opinions from our teams on how they feel now that we’re around the halfway point of the season. It feels nostalgic to see Revolt-RVL at the top of their leaderboard once again. Once a powerful team that rebranded to Velocity Esports, Revolt found itself making re-entry after the Velocity team disbanded earlier in the season. They seem to be making quite a name for themselves now that they’re back! In the NA region, the top three teams have cemented their spots at the top of the leaderboard, with fourth and fith place changing teams once again. Eternity and Indomitable have been replaced by Ignite and the re-entering Olympus after a short stint out of the top 5. In the same way, APAC seems to have a solid top 2, with Hybrid and Pavlov’s Dogs not interested in letting anyone have a go at their spots, although Legion Praetorian has come back to the top 3, bumping out ¥oung Mafia. We’ll hear what these teams have to say in just a bit, but before we do that, we have to cover our roster changes!

How are you feeling as a team after your week six match/matches?
We're now around the halfway point of season two. What, if anything, does your team need to work on in order to be ready for the end of the season?

NA:

ASP3CT- iBlameMyAim: “Despite the challenges, we are holding strong at the number two position. Our only defeats have been at the hands of the formidable #1 seed, AESIR. We are in a good place, but it's evident that we must prioritize our mental fortitude and rediscover the joy in playing. As a team, we are united and resilient. Any setbacks, like last night's, are opportunities for growth, and the responsibility falls on me more than anyone else. Let's refocus, work on our mental game, and rediscover the joy in what we do."

Fusion- Luna: “We are happy with our continued progress but have a long way to go. Everything can always be improved. We have gotten a little better at a couple of the maps, but there is much to do.”

EU:

Revolt-RVL- XavDaSlav: “As I started this team only a few weeks ago we’ve only been active for 3 weeks, however we are feeling confident. Beating the season one champs and previous #1 team in the leaderboards, we have to be feeling confident. To add to this, we have been consistently competing with the top teams like ivi in private scrims. I think due to being a newer team the chemistry isn’t the best it could be, so that’s one thing we definitely have to work on before the finals, but I’m not worried about that as it’s the easiest fix. This team has amazing people and amazing players, (and) I’m sure we will be a contender for the top spots.”

ivi- Beaver: “We're feeling good after week 6. .COM gave us a run for our money and hard countered us. All things considered, ivi as a team need to be playing the game more. Our rivals 'FYR' recently became Aesir's sister team which was pretty interesting and unexpected. Either way we will be prepared for the end of the season and come out on top like we did in pre-season.”

Sunset Ravens- JediMilo: “Last week we were quite burned out and did pretty badly in our match, but after a break we are definitely back up to scratch. I’d suggest we just need to work on comms and unnecessary yapping.”

Ragnarok- Mark: “Everyone at Ragnarok has gotten a confidence boost after our time away from the very top teams in the league. This allowed us to step back and take a look at what we have to improve on, and why we would be losing rounds to a team we didn't see as being much better than us. Ragnarok has their eyes set on perfecting our attack synergy for the upcoming weeks.”

APAC:

Legion Praetorian- Gen0cyde: “Legion is feeling strong halfway through the season. We are a team that does not focus on winning or being highly competitive, we just want to have fun. Legion likes to improve on our strategies and timing. We have noticed that our push timing from two flanks is not in sync. That is what we will be working on this week. Looking forward to next week of VRML.”

Halfway Point Checkpoint -Opinion by Gibular_Bob

As we end off week six and begin week seven, we’re officially hitting that halfway point in season 2. If new teams want to participate in the postseason, they’ll need to get started now and play nearly every single week (or use some challenge matches) to qualify for the challenger cup and finals. Either way, I think it’s important at this point in the game to take a step back and look at the overall current state of things. One of the primary reasons why I brought up question 2 in the interviews this week was because I think all teams should regularly check on their own progress as well, not just the progress of other teams.

I’ve been playing Breachers VR for almost a whole year now, and comparing my gameplay now to back when I started, there is a staggering difference. Not saying that I’m the best player in the league, but I’ve made quite a few strides in the way I think and act when playing the game. It’s not just about accuracy- my entire thought process and approach to rounds has also changed as well.

And this is where I implore you and your teams to also do the same: examine your gameplay at the start of the season and figure out what areas you're strong in, and what areas need improvement. Self-reflection is an important step in climbing the ladder, and being able to acknowledge your own mistakes will make you more receptive to fixing those mistakes. The reason why it’s great to do it during the halfway point, is that there’s an entire second half of the season for you to improve and build upon your already solid foundation. With the stakes getting higher each week, correcting even small mistakes now could make a massive difference in the future! I wish you all luck in the second half of the season!

Wrapping up Week Six:

Well, it looks like we’re once again out of time! The passing of week six marks the beginning of a turning point in the Breachers VRML. From here on out, the competition will be fierce, and everyone is looking for their shot at the top. Will our top teams be able to maintain their spots, or will they fall just short of the finish line? We’ll find out in the second half of the season! Greetings once again from the Breachers VRML! Week five has not only been a big and exciting week for our teams, but also the entirety of Breachers as well! With the details of ranked revealed, and the release date right around the corner, we find ourselves getting ever closer to this exciting and long-awaited era of Breachers! With week five under our belts, we’re looking at a very solid lineup in the top five of each region. Most notably, ivi’s loss to FYR this week ended their hopes of being undefeated for the remainder of the season. This only leaves two other teams, Hybrid and AESIR, who have remained undefeated since the start of the season. The pressure only continues to mount as we move closer and closer to the postseason. Keep an eye on these top teams in the coming weeks, as they may very well be contenders for VRMLCON 2024 later in the year…

AESIR- Red: “I'm feeling pretty good about the first 5 weeks, a 5-0 start is always a good start to the season. I can't wait for competitive ranked to come out. I'm hoping to see some old faces come back from breaks for that, and I can't wait for those new gun skins we saw in the announcement post to come out!

EU:

Sunset Ravens- JediMilo: “We’re feeling great as a team and excited for what the rest of the future can bring! (I’m) hoping to finally know the release date for ranked so that I can get my hands on it soon!

Ragnarok- Mark: “Ragnarok has faced a lot of strong teams the last 4 weeks for our premiere into the Scene. Week 5 was a great refresher to not be facing those big names. Granting us two wins. Everyone in the team is hoping to see a release date for the Competitive update along with any additional information of balance changes coming with the ranked mode. Wish every team in the EU the best of luck with week 6!”

APAC:

¥oung Mafia- MARSH: “My team is finally getting into the swing of things after a lot of trial and error, but cultural differences between Japan and Australia make it difficult to match (the) match times, so I'd be happy to see more Japanese and Korean teams. I expect that the new ranked competition will implement gun skins and player banners based on the rank a player has reached! I wish breachers more excitement in the future!”

It’s Finally (Almost) Here! -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Today was the day that it seemed like we waited an Eternity (pun intended) for; Triangle Factory finally released details on the ranked mode for Breaches nearly an entire year after the game launched, and it had pretty much everything you could ask for. New gun skins, more ways to unlock credits, ties, the ability to remove bots from custom matches, the list goes on and on. The full podcast will be released again on Wednesday if you want to see it for yourself (you should by the way, Wesley and Orcolom were great hosts), but my opinion today will cover some of the biggest takeaways from the deep dive, and my thoughts on them:

Ranked mode is obviously going to be the first point on the list. It really feels like a dream to finally see how everything will work. I never thought I would be as excited as I was to hear that there will be tiebreakers in ranked, but here we are! Simply put, this mode is something that Breachers has needed for quite some time: a mode where people can sink hundreds, even thousands of hours into being the best, and not just for credits or skins, but for the glory of being in the top fifty of the entire world! Ranked will provide an experience that will test every player’s abilities to work well not only as an individual, but as a team- something that Breachers has always been about! On top of this, Triangle Factory’s consideration of adding Easy Anti-Cheat would help solve a major issue that’s been plaguing both Breachers and the Breachers VRML for some time now. Who knows? If this anti-cheat is successful, we may also be able to get rid of the recording mandate! No promises though *wink*.

Another point I wanted to touch on was the ability to remove bots from custom games. This is a quality of life feature that I think Breachers has needed for a very long time now. Don’t get me wrong- I love the bots and their tendencies to instantly flick onto my head with their laser Cadillos, but their forced presence in custom games has removed the ability to do true 1v1s or any other kind of private matches, which thrive in highly competitive games like this. And hey, if you ever miss your favorite bots, you can always find them on public servers!

Lastly, I wanted to touch down on how thankful I am that Triangle Factory waited and delayed it all this time so they could give us the presentation they did today. The implementation of ranked carries a lot of weight on the overall health of Breachers. If they released ranked in a messy/buggy state, I’m of the opinion that it could outright kill the game entirely. This is why I’m so thankful they delayed everything. A lot of players got pretty much everything they were asking for, and that likely wouldn’t have happened had Triangle Factory rushed it out. Personally, I think it was well worth the wait- even if it did feel like forever at some points!

Wrapping up Week Five:

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost half of the way through season 2! It feels like it was just yesterday when teams were discussing what they did during their offseasons! Nonetheless, the competition continues to ramp up for all of our teams with the window of opportunity to reach the top growing smaller and smaller with each passing week! Welcome to week four of the Breachers VRML Season 2! The season is still young, and week four wasted no time at all giving us intense battles and dramatic roster changes. From a top EU team disbanding, to one of the craziest roster poaches of the season so far, week four has once again proven that there is never a dull moment in Breachers VRML! AESIR, ASP3CT, and Eternity: three of the strongest NA teams once again find their way to the top of their region, with Rebel and RE.START in hot pursuit. EU also saw quite a few changes this week, with ivi taking the number one spot after a sudden Nexus disband. French Resistance moved up, and CHBR made entry into the top five EU teams once again. The APAC front also saw a change in their third place team, with IMOOGI falling out of the top three and being replaced by Legion Praetorian. What’s interesting is that AESIR, ivi, and Hybrid remain the only undefeated teams that have played every single week in their respective regions. How long will their streaks last? We’ll find out in the coming weeks!

In your opinion, what is the most underrated weapon, gadget, or strategy in competitive Breachers?

NA:

ASP3CT- iBlameMyAim: “We are feeling extremely good and confident after our 2 matches this week vs Eternity and Olympus. More than happy to come away with 2 wins. Easily the most underrated weapon is the canutt. With the right player it’s a deadly weapon. It’s so deadly in tight corners or connector hallways, playing close on walls. Gadget is an incen. Incen can block off rotations or block defenders from advancing on you while you plant. A lot of these maps have been played so many times that there aren't too many unique strategies. You may see a twist here and there on some stuff. I think it’s the teamwork and communication you have with the team in game during the round that sets you apart strategically.”

Rebel- baymask: “Speaking for the whole team, we're feeling confident after playing the 4 matches this week. The loss against eternity made us realize that we still have a lot to improve on, and (we) took it as a sign to step up our game. Smokes for sure. They provide cover to not only your teammates, but they're a great form of rotation when you're in a jam. Smokes can also be useful to hide unexpected grenades. Many lower tier teams should start using them if they want to see better results in both attacking and defense rounds.”

RE.START- ShimiMarui: “We're always working to improve and work on our plays, teamwork, and comms. This week highlighted a lot of areas we can work on and continue to improve as a team. We're here (to) play and we're here to win. Domin' Omen. It's a cheap SMG that if used right can take multiple Vezin players. Incens are fire too. Delaying a retake with an incendiary can make or break a successful defuse sometimes.”

EU:

ivi- Beaver: “Same as last week, we're feeling great. We're sad that Nexus disbanded considering the shape up EU was having, but oh well. Sunset Ravens were surprisingly better from when we played them in scrims, so I'll be interested to see how they hold up vs the other teams. In my opinion, the viper is (the) most underrated weapon. It can contest the Vezin mid-close range almost every time, but it just isn't the same as pre nerf omen (rip).”

French Resistance- Florentin: “After our match of week four we feel extremely good, showing the Europeans that yes, the French are present in the competition, and we are ready for victory. Our favorite strategy is on skyscraper. The radio attack that we staged during the playoff against CHBR (where) we attack with 5 (players) in radio. It's always a pleasure to do it!

Sunset Ravens- JediMilo: “Pretty confident in our ability to play near the top, and hopefully going to continue doing well. Viper (is) definitely underrated. One of our teammates loves it, and uses it occasionally to great success. Shoutout to Mack8002.”

Cheeki Breachi- Beemo: “We're feeling grouchy and irritable - but that's just normal, nothing related to the matches. (An) underrated Strat is to let them win 0-7 so the game is over faster.”

I Lied -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

I know, I know. I promised to talk about something other than rosters last week, but if there’s one thing I’m quickly learning as I write these articles, it’s that there’s no shortage of team drama. Roster report once again took up a ton of space, and I just can’t help but talk about some of the biggest changes that occurred this week.

If I had to pick a place to start, I reckon it would be with the Nexus disband. This is something I did not think I would see so early in the season, and yet here we are! One of the most promising EU teams disbands, leaving a void in the top EU scene. They were actually listed as #1 for EU on the website, but I decided to omit them as they have lost nearly all of their players. It’s a heartbreaking end to a team I thought had a lot of potential. I wish them all the best in their next steps.

In other news: Formula 3, a team that is no stranger to turning heads and creating rivals, found another adversary in the form of ASP3CT. Out of nowhere (and at 4:00 in the morning), F3 nabs Fly, ItzzzHERO, and potentially Old Gravy as well. Granted, HERO was on Eternity, but F3 taking two ASP3CT players led to some… disputes, to say the least. Either way, A3 and F3 are looking to settle their disputes over a game of Breachers, and I’m eagerly awaiting the week when I see those two teams pitted against each other in the matchups.

On a quick side note, we’re approaching the halfway point of the season, and that means that the opportunity for new teams to qualify for the post season is thinning. Teams must be active for at least half of the regular season, so if you’re looking to qualify for the post season (and go to VRMLCON 2024 for free as an NA finalist), make sure you form your team soon!

While we’d love to talk about everything that happened in week four, it looks like our time is up once again. As the season progresses, the teams are finding their matchups only getting tougher, and with more on the line each week, the pressure continues to mount for the top spot in each region. It’s been a pretty quiet week for the EU region, but NA has seen some massive changes, some of which may change the current competitive environment by a large margin and possibly re-define the top ten teams. We'll talk a bit more about these changes later.

What are some of the biggest concerns you have about Breachers right now?

NA:

Eternity- Juice: “Eternity is feeling great so far! We had a hiccup against Aspect but we will continue pushing forward! We are looking forward (to) our game this week and (to) recover from our previous loss. Not many concerns, but the only one that stays consistent is that the game does not have an anti-cheat.”

Fusion- Luna: “We have only improved and will continue to. As long as the game we love to play remains afloat there is nothing to worry about.”

EU:

Sunset Ravens- JediMilo: “Feeling good after beating some of the better teams in EU and after our win vs Nexus in BCL, so hoping for a match vs them in VRML to see how we stack up. Biggest concerns about our matches are teams like ivi and FYR, and _the biggest concern with) the game as a whole would be the long road to competitive mode without much news.”

Nexus- P1xelPlayer: “Feeling great as a team, we knew ivi was gonna be a strong team and (are) happy to have them back in the scene. It was a great match and a disappointing end for Nexus seeing as I myself made a mistake that lost us a very important round, leading to (us) losing more. Is what it is, and (we’re) eager for a rematch at some point. Biggest concern right now is just a controversial one with the playspacing going around. It's taking a lot of fun out of playing the game and even more so in the league. VRML's stance on it won't change for at least this season, so we just gotta deal with it and power through. Hopefully, something gamewise gets changed about it soon.”

ivi- Beaver: “IVI are feeling great going into this week's games. (We’re) hoping to stay undefeated this season of VRML. Personally I think the economy in Breachers is terrible. The game has an economy designed for 13 round Matches, not 7. 2 pistol round wins gives you 4 rounds almost 99% of the time, which is more than half of the game won…”

French Resistance- Noctalys: “We're really pleased with our latest victory against CHBR. It was a strong performance from our side and it shows that we're capable of adapting and succeeding. However, our previous loss against the Sunset Ravens was a bit tough to swallow. We've used that defeat as an opportunity to assess our weaknesses and work on areas where we need to improve. Overall, we're confident in our ability to bounce back and continue progressing. Currently, we're going through some internal reshuffling within our team. We've made changes to our main roster and we're adapting to these new dynamics. While it may pose a challenge, we're rather confident about the future. Our main focus is ensuring that we're all aligned on our goals and strategies, and continuing to strengthen our cohesion as a team.”

APAC:

Hybrid- EBOB: “Our biggest concern would be voice chat dropping out mid VRML game.”

Pavlov’s Dogs- Spaced Out: “My biggest concern about Breachers right now is that the connection to the Singapore server is extremely dodgy for all teams in the apac region, it's forcing us to play international matches on the NA servers instead which isn't great for anyone.”

IMOOGI- insung: “I think I lost a game that I could have won, but I learned a lot from the loss, so it was an interesting week. The ping problem in the APAC region is the most annoying. This game has better ping than other games, but it certainly doesn't seem to be fair to each other.”

Even BIGGER Roster Changes -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Originally, I had intended to discuss a different topic this week, but there were so many big roster changes in NA that I just had to discuss them again! Next week, I promise I’ll talk about something different!

Just like week two I’m at a loss for where to start with all of these changes! Animals disbanded early, we lost Version 2 as well, and there have been a number of player changes among the top teams this week. All that said, I think I’ll address the two humongous elephants in the room: Wicked disbanding and the return of Formula 3.

I have to say, I’m sorry to see Wicked go, as I mentioned last week, they were a team that had been around since the pre-season of the Breachers VRML, and the loss of their captain Shleepy Penguin would leave the team in a difficult spot. All of that came to a head today as we watched the players go their separate ways right before our eyes. A master team with a promising start to season two disbanded early in the season, marking the end of a legacy and the beginning of a new one. While it is quite sad to see the team go, this is a part of the Breachers VRML. Sometimes, even the top players and teams need to shake things up, and in the case of Wicked, that shakeup came.

And speaking of shakeups, the team everyone thought was gone at the start of season two returns! Formula 3 reformed again today with a roster consisting of ex-ASP3CT players, ex-Wicked players, and Viledot. ASP3CT scrambled to fill the gap by bringing FADED back on, but they still have one more slot left to fill after Angel and BOT departed the team. You can be sure whoever they decide to bring on next will find themselves in the roster report! One thing’s for sure though: Formula 3 is back, and they’re hungry for the top spot. Will the team that faced AESIR in the season one finals fight their way to a rematch against the goliath? As I often say, only time will tell.

One More Announcement:

Before we wrap up this week, we have a big announcement: the VRMLCON 2024 discord has officially been released to all of the leagues today! If you’re heading to the convention this July and are looking for updates, or if you want to volunteer for some of the different jobs we have to offer, make sure you check out the discord server linked here, or in the league announcements channels in your VRML league! Additionally, we have a census survey available for all players to fill out. If you have any feedback and would like to take these surveys, they will be included in the league announcement channels as well! Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Week two brings us a brand new set of top teams, with the exception of APAC, who continues to keep their pecking order from week one. For NA and EU, you’ll begin to notice that teams who have played at least three games (this is done through playing challenge matches) have begun to break their way into the standings of each respective region. The arrival of week three will mean that every participating team will be ranked, as there are a few who decided not to challenge anyone, like AESIR, ASP3CT, or any other top teams you may have expected to see higher ranked this season. Rest assured, our standings will finally finish taking shape next week, which means you’ll find some teams scrambling to do as much as they can in order to reach the top spots as early as possible!

Later on, we’ll diver further into these changes and what they may mean for the league in the opinion written by Gibular_Bob, but first, let’s hear what the teams had to say about their second week in the regular season!

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

How are you feeling as a team after your week two match/matches?
What are some strategies you and your team are using to prepare for upcoming matches?

NA:

Eternity- Juice: “The team is feeling really confident in our progress and outside of the league matches we are doing really well. First week was a bummer with a Tie against WICKED but then we challenged RBL and we were able to get that win. Second week, against Infinity, we were happy to secure another win for the season. So far we are staying confident and continuing to focus on improving as a whole. We increased the number of scrims each week and (are) also continuing on improving individually such as aim training. After coming in 3rd last season, we decided to use the opportunity of the off season to keep pushing ourselves to get ahead of any teams that decided to take a break. We are a top team and we will ensure to give everyone a run for their money.”

Olympus- Frostbite_-: “After week two I am feeling pretty good as well as very proud of all of my players once again. We are doing really well with the 14-3 against Eradiate and then a tie with Rebel at our worst mental and physical conditions. Some strategies I am working on with my team are better comms because you can never get perfect with those; then we are going to be working on my pre-fires on all the maps. We are feeling great and ready to win more matches!

EU:

ivi- Beaver: “Answer to question 1: Didn’t do bad for the 4th best team in EU, so we’re feeling alright. However, the job’s not done.

Answer to question 2: Give the team some guns and shoot back at the enemy.”

Underdogs- Marx: “Like many other teams, we went through a major shift after S1 ended: NopeNotMikey stepped down as captain, some of our players quit the game or left for other teams, and new ones took their place. For the moment, we're still noticeably in a phase of growing together as players, but the vibes are as strong as ever. I'm proud to be playing with all these guys, and even though we might not yet have the same level of performance we had at the end of the last season, we're well on our way towards coming back even stronger. One of our new members happens to really like analyzing VODs to find weaknesses in our opponents' playstyles, which has been pretty productive already. Other than that, we're not doing anything specific, as the most important thing we can do as a relatively fresh team is to just spend time in game together, learning the ways we can complement each others' playstyles.”

TEAM PRGE- CONE: “My team and I are feeling great after week 2 matches and we can't wait to find out who and what challenge will come upon us next. We usually get scrims against high level teams to ensure that we are able to learn their styles and break them down so we as a team can improve.”

Alpha X EU- Essence: Kind of annoyed to be honest, but I think I jinxed it saying I didn’t wanna go against a team around CHBR or nexus and got .COM instead. It is what it is though and I’m excited for the rest of the season. (In response to question 2) Mostly just practicing some better teamwork and team awareness because that’s my team's main problem currently, but if we can get that sorted I’m confident we will place decently high in season 2.”

APAC:

Legion Praetorian- Gen0cyde: "Legion Praetorian are excited about the next season of VRML. We think that the growth of new teams in the APAC region is going to introduce diversity and growth. We are not a highly competitive clan, so my team and the other Legion team are not worried about any of the other teams. We just hope everyone has fun. However we also feel saddened by the recording rule change that has been forced onto our players. (The) APAC region does not have a huge population like (the) NA and EU regions. We have even less players with PCVR or quest 3 where recording games on such an intensive resource game like Breachers is easy to do. This recording rule hurts the Q2 players and it is driving our APAC Breachers community down, especially in VRML. If we don't make a change on this rule to be more considerate for players on lower end headsets then it's going to do more damage than good."

Big Week for Roster Report -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

This was a fun week when I was creating the roster report, as it highlighted the sheer amount of changes we saw in just a single week of the VRML. The fact that 19 new teams were created, and more have entered themselves into the season today, showcases the steady growth of interest in competitive Breachers since we launched the preseason close to a year ago. Everyone is taking their shot, and as the calendar moves forward, I am curiously awaiting who will continue to play their upcoming matches, and who will throw in the towel early.

The EU scene continues to develop into a race between extremely skilled teams with the addition of Revolt-RVL to the region. With so many skilled players concentrated on a few powerful teams, each week has netted some really exciting EU matches. Will Revolt be able to break their way back into the top five of the region? Only time will tell…

Which brings us into the most active region this week: NA. Where do you even start when tackling this behemoth of a roster report? Gears leaving AESIR? Shleepy Penguin taking his place? The return of Nitrogen and Havoc? There is so much to unpack that we won’t be able to discuss everything today, but I’ll pick some of my personal favorite developments:

I have to say, what shocked me the most this week was Gears leaving AESIR and Shleepy Penguin joining. AESIR is such a solid team that any time one of their players leave, it’s a big deal- at least to me it is. When I think of Wicked, I think of Shleepy. The team has been through a multitude of roster changes since its debut in the preseason, and with Shleepy being the only constant through the entirety of the team’s life, his absence marks the beginning of a test for Wicked. How will the team fare now that its captain and one of its best fraggers are gone? I wish them all the best as they navigate into week three.

Finally, the second change that surprised me this week was the resurrection of Havoc, or Havoc VR as it’s currently known. What seemed like a promising season for a promising team ended in a heartbreaking fashion amidst hackusations, and a suspension of Wabez that ended the team’s stint in season one much earlier than anyone expected. Havoc was a master team, and I always wondered how the post season would have looked if they were still around. More importantly, how will they fare in season 2, with some of the most stacked NA teams we’ve ever seen in Breachers VRML history. I may not have the answer to that, but in due time we’ll see if Havoc can return to their former glory. Much like Wicked, and the rest of the teams, I wish them luck as they move forward in the season!

Wrapping up Week Two:

Well, week two certainly gave us a lot of things to talk about! Big team changes means the season will only get more entertaining from here on out, and while we’d love to continue the discussion, we’re running out of space to hold all these exciting developments, so we’ll call it here. Hello everyone! Welcome to season 2 of the Breachers VRML! The race to reach the top is finally underway, and if week one has given us anything to go off of, it’s that this will be a very good season. This week has already yielded some exciting results, upsets, and for only the second time in Breachers VRML history, a triple 6’s finish that left NightFiree, Hertage, and everyone else in the audience completely blown away! There’s a lot to break down, so without further ado, let’s take a look at week one!

One of the most exciting parts of a new season is seeing different teams take the top spots on the leaderboards. While there are still some veteran teams that carved an early foothold, we’ll see who can keep their spot moving forward into the rest of the season. After the next article, we’ll take a look at what some of these teams had to say about their first week in season 2 of the Breachers VRML!

The LEGENDARY TRIPLE 6’s -Opinion by Gibular-Bob:

I knew the matchup between AESIR and ASP3CT was going to be good, but who knew that the dramatic back-and-forth between these teams would end up with such an insane conclusion? For anyone unaware, a true tie, or triple 6’s (as I call them), occurs when the teams tie on every single map, earning a score of 18-18 on the VRML Breachers website. From my research, this result has only happened once before in the Breachers VRML history, and that was all the way back in the preseason, when GRIMREAPERS tied with HEXA just two weeks into the inaugural season for Breachers. What I find really funny about the whole thing, however, is that both games have two things in common: they both ended in a tie and they were both casted by NightFiree! This is a good indication that if you want to see a close game, make sure you watch all of NightFiree’s casts, as you may end up missing a really rare VRML moment!

Taking a closer look at the matchup, though, really showcases how much of a powerhouse both of these teams are. In the entirety of their Breacher VRML career, AESIR has only ever lost to one team, and that team is ASP3CT. Additionally, they have never actually beaten ASP3CT. Since that initial loss to ASP3CT, the two teams have tied every single time they were matched against each other. Yet despite ASP3CT’s ability to match the seemingly unbeatable AESIR, they found themselves leaving the season 1 championship really early when they lost to Formula 3. This tough loss, combined with AESIR’s incredible 14-3 win over Formula 3 in the season 1 finals, seems to have been the catalyst for ASP3CT to come back stronger than ever before. With some key acquisitions from Infinity and Formula 3, the power of their new roster was demonstrated for the first time in this matchup, and we are watching one of the biggest rivalries in the Breachers VRML take form each week. Every time these teams play, I can’t wait for the next matchup to decide a winner for this now two game stalemate. Good luck to both teams, and I’m looking forward to watching their progress as the season moves forward!

NA:

Version 2- flaily.EXE: “Week one was great! I love the more competitive side of breachers. Especially knowing that when you work hard for your skill level, then get recognized from other players and teams. It is an amazing feeling competing at a higher level. We’re not really worried about or scared of other teams. We love facing better teams than ourselves mainly because you can always learn a play or anything, and it makes you that much better. You can utilize it when facing a team around your skill level, then eventually jump to the next rank or skill level there is.”

Wicked- Shleepy Penguin: “We're feeling pretty discouraged as we had some same-day availability issues on our challenge match day, and we had to play our bottom roster for the match, which ended in a loss. It's just the first week though, and our top roster tied Eternity on Monday, so we're not sure where we lie yet. We’re not worried about any matchups.”

Fusion- Luna: “We have a long way to go but we’re really proud of the progress our new team has made in such little time. We have no fears, everything is a learning experience this early on”

Olympus- Frostbite_-: “I'm feeling great after the week one matches. Against fusion we lost, but it was one of the closest games I have experienced! They’re very tough, but then we got that challenge match versus wicked [which] started off really rough, but we ended strong and picked up our weight for [the] 2 and 3rd map to win the challenge match. Me and my team feel great after week one. I'm mostly looking at all the new teams that have formed through that pre season. We've scrimmed some pretty good teams like Infinity, Eternity, and AESIR. We won [against] Eternity and lost to them as well. We lost to Infinity and tied AESIR. I'm worried about these teams but you never know what teams can pop up.”

EU:

Team Juice ES- Boshk138: “As a team, we're all very happy after our strong performance into the new season. We're always seen as underdogs in the league and to go out and win is a great feeling for us. Being placed #1 worldwide because of it has also given us a great laugh. For next week, we are worried about a few possible matchups such as ivi or Nexus or Ragnarok. However, I wouldn't necessarily say we're worried, as we'll still go out and play as best as [best as] possible and have a good time doing it like we always do.”

Ragnarok- Mark: “We at Ragnarok are very confident after our first two matches of Week 1. Using our matches as training and doing training drills against Cheeki Breachi and still drawing and beating them 7-1 on Hideout, we are confident in our future and have no fear for any other team.”

Alpha X EU- Essence: “I would say we feel pretty confident, since we have been doing lots of scrims and beating lots of decent teams. We have a good chance to go far this season, hopefully top 10. [Responding to question two] Not particularly though as long as it’s not like Nexus or CHBR then I’m not too worried.”

Exit- rachel1: “My team [is] feeling pretty good after [the] first week. No losses yet, just a win and a draw. We aren't too worried about upcoming matches, but we do feel that we will lose a few.”

APAC:

Hybrid- EBOB: “We are feeling strong after our win in week 1. And there are 0 teams we are worried about next week as 7DS will not be playing until week 6 or around that time.”

Pavlov’s Dogs- Spaced Out: “Feeling great, it went really well with only a couple of mistakes. Hybrid are going to be the team to worry about this season, they've picked up another really strong player.”

Wrapping Up Week One:

We could go on for hours about the intense matchups and upsets we’ve seen in week one, but it looks like time is up for this week’s column! The start of the season is a really fun time for us here at the Breachers VRML. We love seeing and hearing from the new teams, but we also enjoy the company of our existing teams as well! VRML Pre-Season 2 Briefing

Hello everyone! Welcome to the inaugural debut of the Breachers VRML weekly briefing! It’s hard to believe it, but season 2 is already starting up this Monday, and stakes have never been higher! With the announcement of VRML Con 2024, and the highly coveted reward of the top two teams having their accommodations paid for, the race is on for our players and their teams to reach the top. Who will win the grand prize and walk away with an amazing opportunity to play live in Denver this July? We here at the VRML staff are excited to find out alongside you. From the VRML team to all participating players and teams: we wish you all good luck!

Where we Left Off:

In case you’re joining us for the first time this season, or if you need a refresher, season 1 ended with an incredible conclusion delivered by our teams in the postseason. It wasn’t easy for anyone, but here are the three champions (and their runner’s up) for each respective region:

North America (NA):

Now that the stakes are higher than ever before, it looks like our champs have quite the target painted on their backs. All of our new teams should keep something in mind though: these teams are the champions because they are the best, and they won’t go down easy! Both AESIR and 7DS are two-time champions with no plans of stopping anytime soon. Be prepared to bring 110% of your abilities to battle if you want to take their throne away!

The conclusion of season 1 brings many changes to the Breacher VRML community, and we have seen quite a few MASSIVE roster changes that you can be sure will make the season 2 grind very fun to watch! “How did you spend your time during the offseason? Have you been practicing for season 2 at all? If so, how?”

NA:
Indomitable-Crimson: “I restructured my team from the ground up. We are coming back better and stronger than ever. Season two will end with us at the top.”
Wicked- Shleepy Penguin: “I've spent my offseason trying to work on myself to make myself the best example for my team to follow. I play bmm and aim train in control points daily. I have also been spending time coaching my teammates in scrims to try to get them to use their heads more. S2 is looking promising for Wicked.”
ASP3CT- RipTheCord:”Our off-season has consisted of rebuilding, reimage and putting our best effort forward for the new season. We feel our failures were our greatest successes. We are ready for a great season. A3 on top.”
EU:
Velocity EU- vrfloopy: “During off season a lot of our players weren't available because they were either focusing on life or on holiday, so we've mostly been working on everybody's roles and looking at where we went wrong in season one, we've been practicing for season 2 by scrimming as much as we can and also trying out new players while also working on the reputation of players already on the team.”
.COM- Lama DK: “I played as many scrims as possible to hope and improve, so we can hopefully win S2 as well. As well as going through the tryouts to get a full roster again.”
Cheeki Breachi- Beemo: “So for our off season we've been trying to fill gaps in our team. We've had a few people leave for various reasons, so we've been scrimming a fair bit to try and get some applicants tested etc. So yeah, just [a] fair bit of scrimming.

Of course, as the mods are aware, I've personally also spent the off-season performing my duties of debating with as many people as I possibly can in the VRML discord. Blackcat wanted me to pass on what he's been doing in the off season: He has finished redecorating his bathroom.”

APAC:
7DS- McMuffinator: “We've spent our off season not doing much, just scrimming occasionally. No trainings or anything like that.”
Hybrid- EBOB: "We sorta just enjoying life at the moment and come back for VRML and will grind for competitive update. Most of my team is diamond or higher so they just don’t see a point in playing regularly anymore."

On a More Serious Note:

With the start of season 2 upon us, the VRML has been taking steps to ensure a safe and secure environment for all of its participants. Following a recent spike in the number of users banned for cheating, a recording mandate has been put in place by the VRML league moderators. Here is a comment directly from that announcement by league manager Frosty:

“To facilitate this new requirement, we will be providing detailed specifications tailored for each platform - PCVR, PSVR2, Oculus, and Quest Native. Additionally, comprehensive tutorials will be made available to guide you through the processes of recording or streaming your gameplay, as well as instructions for uploading your files appropriately. We understand that this may represent a change in how many of you are accustomed to participating in our league. However, we believe this step is crucial for maintaining the integrity of our competitions and providing a level playing field for all competitors.”

This new mandate follows two other rule related announcements made during the week, with the first being about changes to the calendar:

Challenges will now be disabled during the last two weeks of the season.
Roster lock will be enforced during the final two weeks of the season as well.

The second announcement is in relation to ‘playspacing’, and how the VRML will no longer make rulings concerning it. League moderator Freqk goes into more detail in his announcement:

“For Season 2 of Breachers x VRML, it has been decided by the moderation team that we will no longer be making rulings and enforcements regarding play-spacing. For those who don't know what this is, it is the combined movement between physical, real life movements, and in-game, digital movements, such as physically stepping to the right while simultaneously holding your movement stick to the right, resulting in a movement speed above the natural limit of the game. This decision has been reached after careful deliberation with team captains. Along with our discourse with Captains, Triangle Factory has been making improvements to their game to make the effects of play-spacing dramatically less than it was when we launched Breachers x VRML, and additionally, due to the extremely difficult nature to provide a solid line on what is and isn't play-spacing, and where it has and hasn't happened, we are removing the rulings in order to also remove the mass confusion around our play-spacing rules, as they very rarely have been reported/escalated. This will also help us to remove a rule that would result in highly subjective enforcements.”
